Sprouting - A key to health & vibrancy

Sprouts are seeds that have germinated and become baby vegetables. In many ways, they are like toddlers, they grow super fast and are full of vitality & energy. All plants must go through the sprouting stage. At this young stage, precious nutrients stored within the seed are fully unlocked. Each seed is bursting with nutrients but sprouting is the key.

Sprouts are rich in antioxidants, essential amino acids, many vitamins such as A, C, K and B vitamins like niacin, riboflavin, thiamin and folate and minerals like zinc, calcium, manganese, and copper. When we consume sprouts on daily basis, over a period of time something really amazing happens to our health.

I was introduced to the energizing and healing potential of sprouts in 2014 when I visited optimum health institute (OHI) in San Diego, California for a 4 weeks detox program. Prior to visiting OHI, my legs had started getting un explainable rashes which had spread alarmingly fast. As a result both my feet had swollen to twice their size and walking had become very painful to say the least. Imagine having to deal with this on top of managing LGMD.

By divine grace, I was able to catch a flight by myself - literally dragging myself at the airport :) Once I was at the retreat center, I took a lot of classes that were offered free on the healing impact of various fresh raw foods on overall health. I also drank a lot of freshly squeezed wheat grass juice, ate different varieties of sprouts and microgreens and underwent quite a few lymphatic drainage messages. The instructors were very knowledgeable and shared their own amazing healing stories. The people who work there were very supportive and friendly. I met a lot of wonderful folks from all around the world who had come to get some healing from various ailments. One can just feel the positive energy that is present at this place.

For the first week, I had lots of detox symptoms as I was carrying a huge toxic load. But once the initial week was over, I saw a significant difference on daily basis. In just three weeks my legs were as smooth as baby's butt and swelling in my foot completely went away. I also saw dozens of people having various serious ailments getting much better in a relatively short amount of time staying there. When I came back home, my wife's jaw dropped when she saw my legs / feet so clean without a spot.

I did sprouting for about a month after that but than life caught on and I couldn't continue. But it was always there in the back of my mind. So this time around, one of my new year resolutions was to restart sprouting for my overall health and wellbeing. So I got some sprouting jars and organic seeds from Amazon and it has been going great so far. In fact, I even did a zoom class for 25 people to generate funds for mental health. I showed how to sprout various seeds and now many people that I help/support have started sprouting :)

I have noticed that by adding a cup or two of daily sprouts to my health & wellness routine of SKY breathing, meditation, morning sun exposure/grounding and cold showers, I am feeling even more energetic than ever. Maybe the life force in the friendly little sprouts are passing into me :)

Sprouts are loaded with minerals, vitamins, enzymes and also contain some of the highest antioxidants and cancer fighting compounds. Best part, they don't require soil and are very easy to do right on your kitchen counter. Within 3-4 days you will have tasty sprouts that you can enjoy on their own or on top of meals like soups, salads, avocado toast etc.

You can start from the following sprouts.

  1. Broccoli sprouts

  2. Alfalfa Sprouts

  3. Red Clover sprouts

  4. Radish sprouts

  5. Sun flower micro greens

Buying Sprouting Jars:

  1. Amazon (Personally, I think they are quite expensive, even though I did buy 4 of them)

PS: I recommend checking out this "do your own" sprouting lids video on YouTube and make your pasta jar into a sprouting jar for pennies.
