Sugar + Oil + White Flour= Weight Gain & Chronic Illnesses


With NMD, specially MD (Muscular Dystrophy) excessive weight gain can cause a host of problems. As the muscle continue to break down over time, the weakened body is unable to bear it's own weight. often it can lead to falls and broken bones. The three main culprits for weight gain and obesity are excess of sugar, white flour & added oils (including butter). When combined together they become even more dangerous for health and lay the foundation for many chronic diseases. Unfortunately, most of our beloved desserts, snacks and to-go foods are made using at least two of these ingredients (if not all three). If these aren't enough, a number of additives, preservatives & food colorings are also routinely added to enhance taste and shelf life.


Most will agree, at the time of our ancestors, sugary deserts/and calorie rich snacks etc. were typically consumed only at the time of celebrations that used to come once every few months. In addition, people were really active and could burn some of it off. With NMD such as muscular dystrophy, body movement also becomes limited and hence we end up storing most of this crap in our body.


We must understand that most desserts & savory snacks, cakes, ice creams, pizzas, donuts, gulab jamuns, samosas etc. are not real foods and thus should be avoided (as much as possible), if we value our health and well being.


Food items like these destroy the health at the cellular level. Even if one is not obese or is not showing any signs of chronic illness, by consuming such foods, he/she is already laying the groundwork for what is to follow later. The biggest threat is to our children who are consuming these food like substances on daily bases. We are responsible for our children's health and by feeding them such items we are making ourselves accountable.


Why do these ingredients cause weight gain and chronic health problems?

These ingredients (oil, sugar & white flour) are isolated from the "whole foods" and are stripped of their fiber. When the so called foods that contain these ingredients are consumed, they cause a rise in blood sugar levels, but even worse they injure the inner lining of our arteries. This in turn causes inflammation which if sustained over a period of time leads to a number of chronic and autoimmune diseases.


Solution: Eat from food groups that are scientifically shown to be the best for the body and you will be rewarded with your ideal weight and disease free life. Don't think about food in terms of isolated macro nutrients such as Proteins, Carbs and Fats. When you eat a variety of whole foods such as fresh seasonal fruits, colorful vegetables, lentils/beans, variety of whole grains, nuts and seeds you will get the right amount of all the nutrition that we need.
